The collection includes files related to the Home Mission Board departments of associational missions, church extension, church growth, evangelism, interfaith witness, language missions, pioneer missions, special missions ministries, and work with National Baptists. The collection provides information about the Board's departmental conferences, minutes, reports, task force findings, goals and objectives, surveys, and promotional literature. The collection also includes Belew's articles, correspondence, manuscripts by Belew and others, pamphlets, presentations, sermons, and research materials. Belew corresponded with a number of Southern Baptist Convention denominational leaders including Catherine Allen, George Euting, W. C. Fields, L. O. Griffith, John Havlik, Alma Hunt, Albert McClellan, Fred Moseley, Courts Redford, Oscar Romo, Arthur Rutledge, and C. C. Warren.

The Home Mission Board began work in Cuba in 1886. Work in the country expanded for about a decade, but by the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898, nearly all mission activity had been demoralized. At the close of the war, the Board entered an agreement with the American Baptist Home Mission Society under which the eastern half of Cuba was transferred to the Society and the SBC's Home Mission Board retained the western half.
